Proving that Lydd Aero Club's "Fast Track to PPL" course is both good value and - as its name implies - can be quick, new Club member Nik Gornall completed the EASA PPL course on Friday 18th of May 2018, less than 5 weeks after his first lesson!
Nik challenged himself to get his licence within the course's 6-week estimate, by taking time off work to focus entirely on his Course. His choice of aircraft was the Piper Archer which he took to immediately after his first Trial Lesson with Lydd Aero Club. Having the time available and blessed with really good weather for most of the course, he progressed quickly to leaving his instructor on the ground and flying solo in the very first week.
Co-ordinating a schedule of Nik's choice with a number of Lydd Aero Club instructors, he was able to fly at 2 lessons per day as well and study for the Theory Exams. A few afternoon breaks from flying provided him with further Ground School tuition to pass all nine written examinations.
During the course Nik trained to fly into other airports such as Southend, Shoreham, Goodwood and the local grass-strip at Headcorn and experienced the challenge and thrill of a clearance to transit through the Gatwick overhead.
With Lydd Aero Club's congratulations and the admiration of most of the current students, it is a "job well done" to this latest Club member to qualify as a Private Pilot.
